Solid Contributes New Database Benchmark Suite to Open Source Community
TM1 Benchmark Provides Effective Means To Evaluate Database Performance in Real-World Environments
CUPERTINO, Calif. (February 26, 2007) Solid Information Technology, the leading provider of fast, always-on and affordable databases used in more than 3,000,000 mission-critical deployments worldwide, today announced that it has released the TM1 Benchmark suite as open source under the GNU General Public License (GPL). Designed to provide valuable database performance information, the TM1 Benchmark is a powerful decision-making tool for IT Managers, developers, and database administrators. Open sourcing the TM1 Benchmark allows developers to use, tailor, and enhance the suite according to specific needs.
"Enterprises continue to deploy and support a myriad of applications, the performance of which is often critical to customer retention, cost control and overall revenue generation," said Steve Norall, Senior Analyst at Taneja Group. "The availability of a relevant database performance testing tool like the TM1 Benchmark gives organizations a cogent suite for evaluating database purchase options against current and future performance requirements of their IT infrastructures."
The TM1 Benchmark originated from a research project and Master's Thesis published by the University of Helsinki in 2003. Based on that specification, Solid enhanced and implemented the benchmark to simulate a typical database used in telecommunications applications. Designed to evaluate such high-performance applications in real-world environments, the rigorous test program was widely used in the telecommunications sector where Solid has a significant customer base. Now, Solid has contributed the valuable benchmark suite as an open source tool, reflecting Solid's commitment to the open source market.
"From planning, to development and deployment, database performance is a critical factor for enterprise IT decisions. Organizations want to avoid flawed decisions that can result from incomplete information," said Alain Couder, CEO and president, Solid Information Technology. "Solid's contribution of the TM1 Benchmark to the open source community provides a new, highly relevant tool for a specific application type. We welcome community feedback and contributions."
A complete description and source code of the TM1 Benchmark are available for download at www.solidDB.com/TM1.
The company's open source product, solidDB for MySQL 5.0, is available for download at dev.solidDB.com.
